One of the major reasons that a building's foundations subside is the drying out and subsequent shrinkage of the soil underneath.
The major cause of loss of moisture in soil is that of trees that have spread their root system toward the building.
Installing a root barrier cuts the roots off and then prevents the roots from spreading again in that direction.
With the moisture-absorbing roots no longer an issue, the moisture builds up again in the soil through natural rainfall and/or artificial addition of water, and the soil expands again. This often leads to foundations returning fully to their normal position.
However, sometimes a small amount of remedial work may also be required to compliment this process.

Terry O'connor is a registed house and commercial builder and is a carpenter/joiner by trade.
Terry has over 30 years of experience within the building industry.
As a director of Underpinning Queensland Pty Ltd. Terry is responsible for onsite works, organising staff, machinery, etc., including working with our clients to keep them informed throughout the process as well as keeping a tidy and safe work place.
He also plays a shared roll in business development and marketing.
